Mentoring
Mentoring support for students with disabilities at IIT Delhi is structured to ensure comprehensive support and guidance throughout their academic journey. Here's how it is provided:
BSW Mentors(Board for student Welfare Mentors)
BSW mentors help navigate academic challenges, access resources, understand university policies, and address any specific needs related to disabilities.
They serve as a consistent point of contact for students, helping them integrate into campus life and ensuring they have equal educational opportunities.
Peer Mentorship (Student Buddy Program)
In addition to BSW mentors, there is a peer mentorship initiative known as the student buddy program. This program pairs senior students with disabilities (peer mentors) with incoming first-year students with disabilities.
Peer mentors share their own experiences and insights, offering practical advice on managing academics, campus activities, and personal challenges related to disabilities.
This peer support system fosters a sense of community and belonging and provides junior students with SwD mentors who understand their unique circumstances and can provide guidance.
Overall, the mentoring support provided by the BSW Mentors and Student Buddy Program plays a vital role in empowering students with disabilities at IIT Delhi. It meets their academic and career-related needs and creates a supportive environment where they can grow holistically.
